Austin Hatcher Foundation & Race Events
Austin Hatcher Foundation

The Austin Hatcher Foundation for a carefree childhood was formed in 2006 after Amy Jo and Jim Osborn lost their infant son, Hatch, to a rare form of pediatric cancer. The foundation’s mission is to support research towards diagnosis, treatment and development of a cure for pediatric cancer and to provide support and hope to children and families undergoes treatment as well as those who have lost children due to cancer. The foundation has developed a landmark group of programs and services essential to help cancer stricken children and their families function within their community. For more information, visit

The Austin Hatcher Foundation is the official charity of several race series including the American Le Mans Series. As part of the Foundation’s new 2011 Campaign, the American Le Mans Series will work side by side with the Austin Hatcher Foundation by providing families with a much-needed escape from the everyday realities of pediatric cancer through a treatment concept known as diversionary therapy.

At each stop along the series, professional drivers visit local children’s hospitals to provide pediatric cancer patients and their families with fun activities, including the opportunity to build and race their own pinewood derby cars. The drivers also visit the individual rooms of any children who are not presently well enough to participate in group activities. In addition to enjoying activities at the hospital, families are invited to spend a day at the track participating in many exciting racing activities.

In additional to providing financial assistance, The Hissong Group Companies support this foundation through service on the foundation’s executive board, providing employee and company resources for pre-event coordination and on-site assistance in coordinating hospital visits and assisting in the hosting of diversional therapy events at various race locations throughout the year.

The Gary Sullivan ALS Golf Tournament
Austin Hatcher Foundation

When Gary Sullivan, a Sanford native and active member of the Sanford-Springvale Community, was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), his family and friends vowed to fight alongside him. Commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, ALS is a fatal neuromuscular disease with no known cause, treatment or cure. As the disease progresses, a person's body can become totally paralyzed while the mind and senses remain unaffected. Simple tasks such as talking, walking, and eating become increasingly difficult and then impossible as the body's muscles waste away. The life expectancy of an ALS patient is two to five years.

In August, 2008, the Hissong Group Companies created and hosted the 1st Annual Gary Sullivan ALS Golf Tournament to help find a cure for ALS and to improve the quality of life for those individuals currently battling the disease. This annual tournament has since raised over $65,000 for individuals and their families affected by ALS.

Proceeds from these tournaments have supported the ALS~Maine Collaborative in its mission to establish a state-wide presence specific to addressing Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) in Maine and to help coordinate the services available to persons with ALS (pALS), their caregivers, and the groups and organizations that support them.
